Fundamentals for Content Creators
While creating your own online content can be a fun and creative way to express yourself, it is important to remember to protect the subject matter of all videos, blog posts, photos, etc., as well as yourself, by openly communicating with your parents about what content you are creating, and making sure to keep it clean. Here are some specific things to keep in mind:
1. Do not post anything illegal or dangerous.
2. Never post revealing details such as your home address, school or the club where you play sports.
3. Always respect other people’s privacy. Even if you capture someone doing something potentially embarrassing, always check with that person before posting.
4. Remember that once a video, photo, etc. is posted, it is out of your control, even if it is posted privately to your friends, or if you later delete it (nothing is ever really permanently deleted from the Internet).
5. Don’t imitate or re-enact the latest social media challenges without asking your parents for permission.
6. Any music you use in the background of a video should be an original creation.
7. Don’t curse or use foul words in your content.
If you have followed the above suggestions, then remember to also be creative, original and have fun. Using your online content to help others is always a good idea.
